Dear compatriots,

I wish you and all people of the world, who celebrate Nowrouz, a happy New Year

Our nation is celebrating the New Year while struggling for freedom, prosperity, democracy, development and security, and education at a time we deserve these the most. Iranians are facing imprisonment and torture, convicted of expression of opinion and taking legal actions. The regime has stripped away Iranians’ right of self-determination and violated the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Detention centers and prisons are filled with honorable Justice lawyers, teachers, human rights activists, religious minorities and religious identity activists, women activists, students, workers, artists, journalists, political activists and others seeking freedom and equality.

The regime has taken an institutional discrimination approach and does not recognize principle human rights. On the other hand, because of its inefficient programs and policies (which are inconsistent with national sovereignty), the regime has marginalized Iranians with different social, ethical and economic backgrounds. Workers, farmers and poor people are dealing with all time high level of unemployment, inflation, and poverty as well as social problems (including violence, prostitution, divorce, and dissolution of family foundation). The people of Iran face no hope for the future. A combination of international sanctions resulted from regime’s nuclear ambitions, involvement in international terrorism and interference with the national interests of neighboring countries in the region, systematic violations of human rights along with maladministration, improper economic policies over the last eight years, the so-called “resistance economy” has positioned Iran amongst the poorest nations of the world, and our beloved country has become an isolated country like North Korea.

My Iranian compatriots,

Considering all these problems the only solution for Iran is to have all organizations, political parties, and associations become united and organized in a democratic and social movement to achieve their common goals. This is the key to our victory and this must be a mission for all intellectuals, elites, political figures and parties despite their differences. While people of Iran are suffering many problems, and Iran is facing many dangers and perhaps the worst time of its great history, why can’t we become united (despite all differences in political opinions or ideologies). We shall call the new Persian year, 1393, the year of National Unity in a civil and democratic framework?

Not pursuing a National Democratic Alliance would be an unforgivable sin for those who want to realize the universal declaration of human rights, separation of church and state, the formation of an independent judiciary and a fair justice, opposing the death penalty, the unconditional release of political prisoners (Baha’is, Sufis, Christian converts, etc.), NO to obligatory cover (i.e. Hijab), fair wages for workers, freedom of speech, belief and religion, and the right to self-determination and equality of gender, religion and ethnicity. The current tragic situation in Iran has two sides – first: the current tyrant regime, and second: evading social and national responsibilities of these social and political groups.

Nowrouz is a historical opportunity for all people of Iran to reassess their historical and individual responsibilities and furnish the path for unity and join a democratic, social, and political movement to free Iran from current tragic situation. This would be a path towards the dignity that the great nation of Iran deserves.

Iranian New Year, 1393
