Behnam Ibrahimzadeh Transferred to Ward 1 of Rajai Shahr Prison

HRANA News Agency – Behnam Ibrahimzadeh, imprisoned labor activist, was transferred from solitary confinement to ward number one, in Rajaei Shahr prison.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Behnam Ibrahimzadeh had been transferred to solitary confinement in ward number one of Rajaei Shahr prison, on June 6, while he was severely ill, due to his hunger strike and also being beaten.

A close source to Mr. Ibrahimzadeh, told HRANA’s reporter, “Behnam was hardly beaten by the chief of the ward and also by wardens and then transferred to solitary confinement, where again he was beaten. He started his hunger strike and when he entered the ward, he even could not talk”.

This is while he had been transferred to clinic due to his critical condition a day before.

According to HRANA, harassment of prisoners in Rajaei Shahr prison is a precedent event. Authorities and prison officials usually stop prisoners from follow up by making false reports. This subject had caused many complaints by prisoners and their families.

This labour prisoner was previously kept in ward number two, known as Dar-Al-Quran, and now has been transferred to ward number one, where political and non-political prisoners and even dangerous prisoners are kept together.

Mr. Ibrahimzadeh had many request for being transferred to a hospital because of his arthritis and severe pain which have been rejected so far. His son is diagnosed with leukemia and his last visit with his family was near two months ago. His family cannot afford weekly visits, due to the distance and for that reason Mr. Ibrahimzadeh asked his family not to go for visit.

Behnam Ibrahimzade, labour and children’s rights activist, was arrested by security forces on June 12, 2010 and first sentenced to 20 years in prison by the revolutionary court, but appeal court reduced this sentence to 5 years. He is serving his fifth year in prison, however was tried after the raid of prison guards to ward number 350 of Evin, the event known as Black Thursday, and sentenced to another 9.5 years in prison.
