A cyber activist sentenced to 3 years in prison

HRANA News Agency – Sohail Arabi, a defendant of Cybercrime was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday 3rd September 2014.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Soheil Arabi, cyber activist was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment in total by the Branch 15 of Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Salvati with accusation of insulting the leadership and propaganda against the regime. Mohammad Davari must serve extra 45 days in prison

HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Davari, political prisoner was sentenced to forty-five excessive days in prison, when he was expecting to be released after he served his sentence.

Mysterious death of complaining prisoner in a solitary confinement

HRANA News Agency – According to the Prison guards, Bahram Tasviri Khiabani a death row prisoner was found dead in a solitary confinement cell at Rajaee Shahr Prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the body of Bahram Tasviri Khiabani a death row prisoner was found today August 28th , 2014 in a solitary confinement at Ward 5, Rajaee Shahr Prison. Back in 2010 HRANA published a report about this prisoner raped by prison guards ( see the 2010 report here) and also his accounts about this rape , abuse and mistreatment at prison( see his video here) . The footage of Ghezel Hesar Prisoners’ rebellion against death penalty

HRANA News Agency – On August 26th, 2014 a rare footage of protesting prisoners rioting against mass executions at the 2nd unit of Ghezel Hesar Prison published by HRANA news agency. The riot took place on August 17th, 2014 and finished with many causalities and injuries among protesting prisoners.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), in the morning of August 17th, 2014 at least 14 death-row prisoners were transferred to the execution chamber at Ghezel Hesar Prison. This resulted in a riot by prisoners of unit 2 at this prison whom most of them are death-row prisoners. These prisoners confronted the prison security unit and demanded to suspend the executions.
Live rounds and tear gas widely were used by Qezel Hesar security and back up units which resulted in lots of injuries and at least 10 causalities.
HRANA also reported about the peaceful protest of prisoners’ families outside the prison on the same day who demanded suspension of executions. However, these protests were suppressed by NAJA using Water Cannons and led to several arrests.

Majid Tavakoli and Riaz Sobhani return to prison

HRANA News Agency – Majid Tavakoli and Riaz Sobhani have returned to Rejai Shahr Prison at the conclusion of their three-day furlough. Both prisoners were granted a leave on August 23 and required to report back to prison on August 25. Their requests for an extension have been denied.

Hamid Babaie passed out at Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Hamid Babaie, a Prisoner of conscience at Evin Prison, has passed out and got revulsion for unknown reasons during the past couple of days.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Hamid Babaie, a Finance PhD student at Liège University in Belgium was arrested at the airport while returning to Iran back in July 2013. He received 10 years sentence (6 years Imprisonment and 4 years Probation sentence) and has been jailed at Evin Prison since then. In a Facebook note, his wife explained about his unconsciousness and his transfer to the prison’s clinic. Labor activist Reza Shahabi awaits surgery

HRANA News Agency – Labor activist Reza Shahabi awaits surgery while recovering from his prolonged hunger strike. Reza Shahabi is the board member of SWTSBC, the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company.

On Saturday, July 12, 2014, Shahabi was transferred from Rejai Shahr Prison to Imam Khomeini Hospital. Since then he has been waiting to regain his physical strength to undergo surgery. “The surgeon has postponed the operation until Reza is strong enough,” a family member says.

The Appeals Court has sentenced Shahabi to serve four years in prison. He has been banned from participating in labor organizations for five years and fined approximately $3,000.

Journalist Massoud Kordpour returns to prison

HRANA News Agency – On August 25, 2014, Massoud Kordpour returned to Mahabad Prison at the conclusion of his furlough. His request for an extension has been denied.
On November 9, the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad convicted Massoud and Khosro Kordpour on charges of conspiracy and incitement against the Islamic regime. Both brothers are two jailed Iranian journalists and Kurdish activists.
The judge sentenced Massoud to three years in prison on charges of conspiracy and six months for incitement. Likewise, Khosro received five years on charges of conspiracy and one year for incitement. Khosro was exiled to a prison in Tabriz to serve his term.
Currently, Massoud is behind bars in Mahabad Prison, and Khosro is in Tabriz Prison. “Khosro has been denied furlough so far,” a member of the family said. “He is being held with regular inmates.”
