HRANA News Agency – It has been reported that last night, on March 28, 2011, the condition of Mohsen Dokmechi deteriorated, and due to lack of medical care, he died in hospital. Mohsen Dokmechi was a political prisoner in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, Tehran. Prior to his arrest, he was a well-known merchant in Tehran’s bazaar.
In mid March, having no hope for Mohsen Dokmechi to survive because his cancer had spread, doctors had said that he would die within one to three months.
Center to Defend Families of Those Slain and Detained in Iran has reported that in the last few days of his life, Mohsen Dokmechi’s condition worsened day by day such that he was no longer able to sit up on his own in bed or drink liquids such as milk or juice without experiencing severe pain. On physicians’ recommendations, Mohsen Dokmechi should have been receiving chemotherapy long time ago in a hospital outside the prison.
It is noteworthy that prison officials had repeatedly interfered and obstructed medical care for Mohsen Dokmechi who suffered from pancreatic cancer with malignant tumors.
