Intensified Security Environment in the Villages Surrounding Shahu Mountain

HRANA- Over the last week the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp has cut off mobile and telephone services to the villages surrounding Shahu Mountain along the roads leading to Kamyaran and Marivan.

Officials have not responded to protests by the citizens of the villages who are asking for the reasons behind the restrictions. Last year, the Revolutionary Guard cut off telephone services to these villages causing hardship for its citizens.

Additionally, their have been incidents of harassment of residents by the Revolutionary Guard as they have been establishing positions in residential areas. They are using the excuse of the presence of Kurdish groups in the area to justify their actions.

The Revolutionary Guard is establishing centers in mosques and positions on the rooftops of people’s homes essentially using the residents as human shields. This has caused an outcry by the inhabitants of the villages.
