A Number of Students Arrested in Tehran / All Furloughs of Political Prisoners Canceled

HRANA News Agency – After a joint meeting between four members of the students’ union of Tehran University and the head of the university about releasing detained students, these four members of students’ union were arrested by the security forces.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), four students were arrested after a joint meeting with the university president regarding the situation of detained students.

The security forces arrested the four students, who were present at the joint meeting on behalf of students’ union, after the end of the meeting and moved them to an unknown location on January 1, 2018.

It is said that a number of other members of students’ union of Tehran University, who were present at the joint meeting, were not willing to leave the place by demanding the release of detained students.

Earlier, the students’ council of the country issued a brief statement announcing the solidarity with the demands of the protesters and emphasized that the Minister of Science is responsible for any security collision with students and university, and called for the unconditional support from the Ministry of Science and immediate cessation of this disrespect and lawlessness.

On the other hand, it is reported from Evin Prison and Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj that the furloughs of political prisoners, some of whom had even deposited the bail, have been canceled completely.

Prisoners have been told that due to the condition of the country, no prisoner would be released on furlough until further notice and possibly the prisoners on furlough would also return to the prison.
