Death Sentence of Yaghoub Karimpour Upheld by the Supreme Court

HRANA – The death sentence of Yaghoub Karimpour, a Yarsan follower and prisoner held in Urmia Prison, has been upheld by Branch 9 of the Supreme Court.

Based on information received by HRANA, Branch 9 of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Mr. Karimpour, a citizen adhering to the Yarsan faith. The ruling was formally communicated to him in Urmia Prison on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. In December of this year, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, presided over by Judge Sajjad Doosti, had sentenced him to death on the charge of “corruption on earth” (efsad-e fel-arz) through espionage in favor of Israel. His trial was held via videoconference.

Mr. Karimpour was arrested by security forces in Miandoab in June 2025 and transferred for interrogation to The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Urmia. According to an informed source, he was subjected to security pressures for approximately two months in order to extract forced confessions regarding alleged cooperation with Israel.

From the time of his arrest until his case was referred to Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, Mr. Karimpour was denied access to legal counsel and was also not permitted family visits throughout his detention.

Yaghoub Karimpour, aged approximately 41, is married and a graduate in law from Maragheh University.

Citizen Killed in Unrestrained Shooting by the Police in Kermanshah

25-year-old Azad Rezaie, a resident of Kermanshah, was shot dead in the head by the police.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, Azad Rezaie, a Yarsan Follower, was killed in an unrestrained shooting by the police in Kermanshah.

The police reportedly started shooting at his vehicle, leading to his death.
According to HRANA annual report, in 2022, 845 people were shot by military forces.

Iran Protests: Yarsan Follower Sahar Fathi Arrested in Kermanshah

Security forces arrested Sahar Fathi in Kermanshah at recent protests and took her to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Yarsan follower Sahar Fathi was arrested by security forces in Kermanshah.

An informed source told HRANA that Fathi was arrested for the second time during recent protests.

Yarsanism, Ahl-e Haqq is a syncretic religion founded by Sultan Sahak in the late 14th century in western Iran. As a religious minority, Yarsan followers are subjected to intimidation and prosecution by regime security and judicial systems.

Yarsan Civil Activist Seyyed-Karam Abbasi Arrested

On December 1, 2022, security forces violently arrested Yarsan civil activist Seyyed-Karam Abbasi and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Yarsan civil activist Seyyed-Karam Abbasi was beaten and arrested by security forces.

One day before his arrest, his two brothers, Syeed-Amin and Seyyed-Soroush Abbasi and five other Yarsan followers were also arrested by the road police on the way to Bisotun, Kermanshah Province.

According to an informed source, all three brothers were beaten during the arrest; their houses were searched and damaged.

The reason for these arrests and their whereabouts are still unknown.
