3 Prisoners Hanged in Urmia Prison

HRANA News Agency – 3 prisoners were executed by hanging in the courtyard of Urmia Prison on charge of murder. One of these prisoners was sentenced for political reasons to 5 years in prison, too.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at 6am on Tuesday 6th January, three prisoners in Central Prison of Urmia murder were executed by hanging on charges of premeditated.

These 3 prisoner were named; Sata’r Alipoor, Ali Eghbaljo and Saber Mokhled Mawaneh. Sata’r Alipoor, from Miandoa’b, was arrested in 2009 on charge of murder and sentenced to death. Ali Eghbaljo also was arrested in 2010 and on charge of murder was sentenced to death.

In 2009, Saber Mokhled Mawaneh had an argument on religion issues with some people and then one of them was killed by a knife which apparently belonged to him. Then he left Iran and got experience of membership in two Kurdish opposition parties.

In spring 2013, Saber Mokhled Mawaneh went back to Iran and after couple of days he was arrested. He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by the branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad on charge of cooperation with two Kurdish opposition parties, also in General Court, he was sentenced to death on charge of murder.

Regarding Saber’s case, an informed source told HRANA’s reporter: “The complainants were willing to forgive him, but the Ministry of Intelligence threatened the complainants and asked them; do not give consent for forgiveness.”

This source also added: “Due to financial difficulties, Saber was not able to get a solicitor.”

This political prisoner was one of the 27 Kurdish political prisoners in ward 12 of Central Prison of Urmia (Darya) who had gone on hunger strike for 33 days to protest against not applying the rule of separating the wards based on type of crimes, demanding a separate political prisoners’ ward and gathering all of them from different wards as well as the removal of dangerous prisoners and crimes related to drug prisoners of political prisoners ward, stopping the inhuman and degrading treatment against prisoners and their family members.
