HRANA News Agency – Adnan Hasanpoor, imprisoned journalist was released from Marivan prison, after serving 10 years.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Adnan Hasanpoor, imprisoned Kurdish journalist, was released from Marivan prison on September 16 and after serving 10 years.
Adnan Hasanpoor was arrested in 2007 and sentenced to death on charge of Muharebah in the June of the same year. After requests of his lawyer, his case was sent to the supreme court and processed there, as a result of which the sentence of this civil rights activist and journalist was reduced to 31 years in prison.
In 2010 his lawyer announced that the sentence was reduced to 15 years in prison, and finally in July 2015 and after the changes in the Islamic Penal Act and applying article 134, the sentence was reduced to 10 years.
He was a member of editorial board of Asou weekly that was published in two languages of Farsi and Kurdish. This weekly was banned in 2005, on charge of acts against the national security and disrupting public order.
Conviction of Mr. Hasanpoor was condemned by human rights groups and organizations, especially Reporters Without Borders.
