Throwing acid on women is doomed / Behnam Ebrahimzadeh

HRANA news agency – Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, workers’ rights activists and political prisoner of Rajaei Shahr wrote: “unfortunately despite the widespread demonstration in different regions of Iran, in particular in Isfahan, the criminals who committed this barbaric crime have not been arrested, yet. Undoubtedly, the security forces can immediately arrest political and social activists who plan a rally and protest but can’t identify those responsible for acid attacks.   The behavior and practice of these people question dignity and human values. However, sympathy for the pain and suffering of the victims of this violent crime is only a small step and it is everyone’s duty to support the victims and slightly ease their pain. At the same time, it is important to eradicate this danger from the society and this is the least people expect from the government.

The following is the full text of this letter, a copy of which has been submitted to HRANA:

“In continuation of mass killing of children in Gaza, massacre and raping of women and girls in Shengal of Iraq and Koubani of Syria by DAESH, loss of thousands of lives by Ebola virus in west Africa, the recent acid attacks on the Iranian women in Isfahan has drawn attentions in the media and social network.  Acid attacks have become the most tumultuous events nowadays.

Interestingly, the judiciary system and the security forces have failed to catch the criminals committed acid attacks. The recent speech of a member of Iranian parliament and several other authorities clearly indicates that these attacks are in continuation of the religious decree named “promotion of virtue” with the goal of controlling women in the society. The acid attacks have created a bitter and distressful situation for everybody. Brutal assault on women and acid throwing on their faces is a dirty, repugnant and inexcusable act. This vicious act aims at undermining the public security using the most inhumane methods, and in my opinion it is worse than any crime and comparable to the terrorist activities of DAESH.

Unfortunately, despite the widespread demonstration in different regions of Iran, in particular in Isfahan, the criminals who committed this barbaric crime have not been arrested, yet.

In conclusion, it is critical to strengthen the social union to help healing the anxieties and fear resulted from such disturbing crimes. Victims of acid attacks should be treated with acceptable and standards treatment, free of charge. We shall do our best to help victims of acid attacks to completely recover, and do not hesitate to boost the morale of their families. We shall strongly condemn acid attacks on women.

November 25th is the International Day of protest against violence against women. This would be the best opportunity to demonstrate our support for the victims of acid attacks and denounce any violation against women.

Behnam Ebrahimzadeh (Assad), the political prisoners detained in Rajaei Shahr prison (Gohardasht), ward #4 of the Hall 12, 26 of October 2014, Iran, Karaj.”
