Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam in Critical Health Condition in Qom Prison

HRANA News Agency – The physical condition of dissident cleric, Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam in Saheli prison in Qom, is reported to be inappropriate. Prison officials refused to send him to the hospital.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam’s blood sugar is very high because of the prison’s food.
A close source to Mr. Nekounam with announcing this news in an interview with HRANA’s reporter, said: “Ayatollah Nekounam’s blood sugar has gone up in prison, since he was retransferred to this prison, for instance his blood sugar level reached 350 Units, before breakfast.”
The source also said: “He has been deprived of being sent even to the infirmary in Saheli prison in Qom.”
The source emphasized: “The prison food is too high in fat and salt, and forensic medic in the city of Qom has said that he could endure imprisonment if he would be brought his diet food from outside the prison, but the Special Court has violated this issue.”
Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekonam, Shiite Marja and dissident cleric, was held in Qom prison with a sentence of 5 years imprisonment. After about 18 months imprisonment on June 23, he was transferred from prison to his home, but after a short time he was arrested at his home, on July 7, and again was transferred to Saheli prison in Qom.
In the previous reports it had not been clear if he was out of prison for furlough or on parole.
In such a short time of freedom, security forces were monitoring the commuting to the house of Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekonam and imposed illegal restrictions on his ties and calls, although he was not in the prison.
Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekonam, one of teachers of Madrasah in Qom, was arrested in the wake of a critical speech and was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Special Court for the Clergy.
