Women's Ward of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Female prisoners in the women’s ward of Evin prison, held a ceremony on the occasion of “November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), female political prisoners in the women’s ward of Evin prison, held a ceremony on the occasion of “November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”.

At the ceremony the prisoners discussed about female genital mutilation and its continuation in some parts of the world and Iran as one of the forms of violence against women.

The audience discussed about the challenges ahead and maintaining effective strategies against all forms of violence against women.

It should be noted that since 1981, November 25 had been chosen as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This is a day to remind the public determination to combat violence against women.

The General UN Assembly approved this day as the universal day on October 17, 1999.

The date was chosen due to the brutal murder of three Mirabal sisters, political activists from the Dominican Republic.
