HRANA News Agency – Reza (Robin) Shahini, an Iranian-American citizen was arrested about 2 weeks ago by security forces in the city of Gorgan and was transferred to an unknown location.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Reza (Robin) Shahini, Iranian-American citizen who had travelled to Iran to visit his family in the city of Gorgan in Golestan province, was arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location.

The Iranian-American citizen’s detention took place on July 15, and he was detained with the arrest warrant that accused him of acting against national security. The security forces who arrested him, searched his house and took his personal and electronic items.

Mr. Shahini had been living in America for more than 16 years. He is a graduate student at San Diego State University and had previously also travelled to Iran.

A close source to Mr. Shahin’s family told HRANA’s reporter that they had hired a lawyer, but he had not been able to get information about Mr. Shahin’s fate so far. The security forces have said that he was accused with acting against the national security and was interrogated by the intelligence service and his interrogation would take couple of weeks.

It should be noted that arresting foreign citizens especially Iranians who has dual nationalities, is sometimes influenced by the political situation between the two countries, as in the last event coincided with the nuclear deal between the two countries, a number of Iranian-American citizens were imprisoned, compromising for the relations between the two countries.
