HRANA News Agency – Majid Abedinzadeh Moghadam, civil activist and one of the witnesses of Kahrizak prison, who is serving his 3 years imprisonment sentence in ward eight of Evin prison, was beaten by non-political prisoners. Failure to comply with the principle of separation of prisoners based on the kind of crimes and beating political prisoners by other prisoners is a common problem in Iranian prisoners. In recent months, also other political prisoners, including Keivan Karimi, Mehdi Rajabian, Amir Amirgholi, and Vahid Siyadi Nasir were beaten by the prisoners of the general wards of Evin prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Majid Abedinzadeh Moghadam was beaten by ordinary prisoners.
A source close to Abedini family told HRANA’s reporter: “Majid was beaten by non-political prisoners and his one eye and head were injured.”
The source also said that Mr. Abedini Moghadam had been deprived of medical leave, and continued: “Majid has been suffering from damaged fourth and fifth column of his spine and they have moved closer to the spinal cord, however his medical leave to treat this problem has been refused and now with this new issue his family are extremely concerned about his condition.”
Majid Moghadam was arrested in December 2014 and by the first court was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment. His case was referred to Branch 39 of the Court of Appeal and his sentence was reduced to 3 years.
Majid Abedinzadeh Moghadam went to Evin prison to serve his sentence of 3 years, on November 1, 2016.
“Protesting against the result of the Presidential Election in 2009”, “Meeting with the families of the killed in 2014”, “Supporting political prisoners and visiting them”, “Recounting the incidents in Kahrizak in the interviews with free presses”, are some of the reasons of this civil activist’s conviction.
Majid Moghadam had been arrested by the plainclothes forces after the presidential election in 2009 and was taken to the Kahrizak detention. In a video interview he testified in detail about this experience, an issue that was not unrelated to his rearrests.
