HRANA News Agency – A prisoner in the central prison of Bandar Abbas, committed suicide and died.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Masood Emam Reza, a 45-year-old prisoner, who was injured during the war between Iran and Iraq, committed suicide with pills in the Central Prison of Bandar Abbas and died.
This prisoners had been charged with forgery and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment, and was held in ward 3 of central prison of Bandar Abbas. After the suicide attempt, he went into coma for 48 hours and eventually on Sunday 15th March, he died.
One of the women prisoners told HRANA’s reporter, “Masood Emam Reza attempted suicide because the prison officials refused his request for a leave from prison, and he had taken 37 tablets of Alprazolam.”
It is to say that; difficult prison conditions, high population density, lack of consideration of the basic rights of prisoners and their psychological and mental conditions, have caused high rate of suicides in all of prisons in Iran.
