According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Rajai Shahr prison authorities prevented prisoners of conscience from exercising and using sport equipment in this prison.
This happening, while Rajai Shahr prison is equipped with a gym and playground and pitches for volleyball, football and basketball, but prison authorities do not let prisoners of conscience, and political prisoners, use these facilities.
According to the same report, even handmade sport equipment for bodybuilding that the prisoners had made themselves with tools such as cans, stucco and cement have just been seized by the prison officials.
An informed source in this regard told HRANA’s reporter that the head of Rajai Shahr prison, with this excuse that the prisoners of conscience are security prisoners, does not let them go to the sport halls and repeatedly has rejected prisoners’ requests to buy sport equipment on their own expense.
It should be noted that banning and restrictions are applied mostly on the prisoners of conscience, Sunni prisoners, in Rajai Shahr prison.
However, the use of the prison’s facilities is all prisoners’ right, either they are in detention or serving their imprisonment sentence.
