HRANA News Agency – Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, imprisoned labor activist in Rajai Shahr prison, is deprived of access to health facilities despite the physical conditions and various diseases.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), despite medical confirmation about his neck arthritis and other diseases, prison officials and prosecutors have rejected his request to send him to a hospital outside the prison.
This is while prisoners and their families have repeatedly stated that Rajai Shahr prison’s clinic does not even have basic facilities for the simple disease treatment.
One of the relatives of this prisoners in an interview with HRANA’s reporter said: “Behnam suffers from severe arthritis and although he is enduring pain, but he has repeatedly gone to the clinic of prison but it was useless, because there is no needed facilities for his treatment, and on the other hand his request for transfer to a hospital outside the prison, has been rejected so far.”
This labor activist prisoner is held in ward 2, known as Daralquran, of Rajai Shahr prison, in Karaj. Daralqran is one of the religious and ideological wards of this prison and is allocated to religious prisoners or prisoners who are seeking absolution or going to leave by reading and memorizing Quran.
HRANA’s source about Mr. Ebrahimzadeh’s conditions in this ward, added: “Behnam’s condition in Daralquran ward is bad and prayer and Quran is mandatory. Behnam is in a room with a murder accused prisoner who is dangerous and always causes more fear for him.”
It is to say, this political prisoner’s young son is affected by blood cancer and it is more than two months after his last visit with his family. His family do not have regular weekly visit due to distance though Mr. Ebrahimzadeh has asked his family to not go for his visit.
Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, labor activist and Children Rights activist, on 12th June 2010 was arrested by security forces and by the Revolutionary Court was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and his sentence was reduced by the appeal court to 5 years imprisonment. He is serving fifth year of his sentence, and after the attacks to ward 350 of Evin prison, known as “Black Friday”, he was retried and sentenced to 9 years and a half added imprisonment.
