HRANA News Agency – Jafar (Shahin) Aghdami, political prisoner in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, shaved his hair and has gone on hunger strike for a limited time in protest of the unconventional inspecting of families and young children in the visiting room at Rajai Shahr prison.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Jafar (Shahin) Aghdami has gone on a 3-day long hunger strike to protest against the unconventional inspecting of families and young children which has terrorized children in the visiting room.

Mr. Aghdami has also shaved his hair as a sign of protest and announced his request in respecting law by the prison guards, and humane procedures in dealing with families and young children, and declared to the relevant authorities.

It should be mentioned that the behavior of prison guards in dealing with prisoners’ families had already caused protests by prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.

Earlier, Saeid Shirzad, another political prisoner in this prison had gone on a long term hunger strike.

Jafar Aghdami was arrested for the last time after participating at the anniversary ceremony at the grave site of victims of 1980s in Khavaran, just 4 months after being released from prison, and was transferred to Evin prison, on August 29, 2008. He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by judge Moghiseh and the sentence was increased to 10 years imprisonment at the appeal stage, after prosecution appealed.

This political prisoner was transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj after about two years and along with other political prisoners was sent to hall 12 of this prison.

Shahin (Jafar) Aghdami had been arrested also in 1999 and 2001 and was imprisoned. In July 1999, coinciding with protests in university dormitory, he was arrested by plainclothes agents and was transferred to the basement of the gendarmerie building and after one month was released on the bail.

Mr. Aghdami also was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence agents in 2001 and was sentenced to 6 years Imprisonment and subsequently was released after his sentence ended in 2008.

This political prisoner is now in the eighth year of his sentence in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.
