Shir Ahmad Shirani Returned to Political Prisoners’ Ward in Ardabil Prison

HRANA News Agency – Shir Ahmad Shirani, Baluch prisoner who is serving the 8th year of his 22 years sentence in exile in central prison of Ardabil, was finally returned to political prisoner’s ward, after few weeks of ignorance by officials.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), after few weeks of tensions, Shir Ahmad Shirani, Baluch prisoner was transferred from ward umber 5, where prisoners with drug related charges are being held, to ward number 7 where political and security prisoners are being held, on Sunday, May 28.
Mr. Shirani had been exiled to ward number 5 for unknown reasons on May 20. Due to the fact that Ahmad Shirani and few others Sunni prisoners in this prison, were injured because of religious reasons and offender prisoners were first agitated and then supported by prison authorities, continuation of holding Mr. Shirani became a source of serious concerns. Mr. Shirani is currently experiencing difficulties for exercising his religious customs.
Shir Ahmad Shirani is the son of Chaker and was born on September 21, 1983 in Zahedan. He is single and was a resident of Tehran. He was arrested on June 2, 2000 by intelligence service forces and is currently is serving the 8th year of his 22 years sentence in exile in Ardabil prison.
Mr. Shirani who according to prison physicians required surgery operation for his leg injuries that were caused by prison condition, has been deprived of proper medical treatment.
In addition, he is suffering from kidney and stomach problems.
This political prisoner can receive sentence reduction under article 28 of the Islamic Penal Code, but by intervention of security authorities, this has not happened so far.
Currently, Ahmad Shirani along with four other political prisoners in exile, with the names of Ali Pajgol, Abdulkarim Sheh Bakhsh, Maher Ka`bi, and Noor Ahmad Hasan Zehi, are serving their sentences in a ward, that is called “death ward” in central prison of Ardabil.
