Sunni prisoner prevented from attending court

HRANA News Agency – A Sunni prisoner sentenced to death in Iran was prevented from attending court earlier this week after he refused to wear the prisoners’ uniform.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Shahram Ahmadi, a Sunni prisoner awaiting execution in Rajai Shahr prison, was due to attend court on Monday. However, he refused to wear the prisoners’ uniform, which is reserved for convicted prisoners, and was therefore prevented from attending the court. He was then returned to his prison ward.

Shahram Ahmadi, a Sunni youth who was active in preaching Sunni Islam, was arrested on 29 April 2009. He was held in solitary confinement for 33 months in ward 350 of Evin prison in Tehran, before being transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.

His younger brother, Bahram Ahmadi, was executed in Ghezel Hesar prison along with five other Sunni preachers on 27 December 2012.
