Nima Khandan Arrested After Visiting His Father in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Nima Khandan, the son of Nasrin Sotoudeh, a human rights activist, and Reza Khandan, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, was arrested today while visiting his father. He was released after a few hours.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI), Nima Khandan, the son of Reza Khandan and Nasrin Sotoudeh, was detained.

His sister, Mehraveh Khandan, wrote on her personal page:

“My brother Nima was arrested this morning following a dispute in the visitation hall and was taken to the police station.”

The charges against Nima Khandan remain unknown.

In January of this year, Nasrin Sotoudeh revealed that prison officials had prevented her and her children from visiting Reza Khandan. In an Instagram post, she wrote:

“Denying visitation for not wearing a hijab is an abuse of state power and an illegal act.”

Reza Khandan has been serving a six-year prison sentence in Evin Prison since December 2023. His wife, Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent human rights lawyer, was released on bail from Evin Prison on November 15, 2023.

Reza Khandan Arrested by Security Forces

Reza Khandan, the husband of prominent human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, was arrested by security forces earlier today.

According to HRANA, the news arm of Human Rights Activists in Iran, Mr. Khandan was taken into custody on the morning of Friday, December 13, 2024.

Mehraveh Khandan, his daughter, revealed in a social media post that her father was arrested at their home.

At the time of this report, no details have been provided regarding the charges against him or his current location.

Reza Khandan is married to Nasrin Sotoudeh, a well-known lawyer and human rights activist who has been repeatedly arrested and sentenced for her advocacy work.
