An imprisoned Azeri activist ended his hunger strike

HRANA News Agency – Ayat Mehr Ali Beyglu ended his hunger strike, after authorities in central prison of Tabriz agreed with his transfer request to his home town’s prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Ayat Mehr Ali Beyglu, the Azeri political prisoner, who had started his hunger strike in protest at persecution of political prisoners and their families by rejections of their transfer requests to their home town’s prison, on Tuesday April 15, ended his hunger strike after 37 days, on May 21.
He is announced in a short telephone call to his family that “after the council of the central prison of Tabriz accepted his transfer him to Jolfa prison and considering the requests of his family and also political and social activists he has ended his hunger strike”.
This member of Yenigamoh added, “This was only one of his requests and if the authorities do not keep their promises he will not remain silent”.
The prosecutor of Tabriz also accepted to transfer this prisoner to Jolfa prison. Need to be mentioned, Ayat Mehr Ali Beyglu is suffering from extreme physical weakness and severe loss of weight due to long-term hunger strike.
He had lost the ability of standing on last days of hunger strike. However, he is still deprived of proper medical treatment and had never been transferred to clinic.
Ayat Mehr Ali Beyglu had started his hunger strike in response to summon and threating the families of political prisoners, exile of political prisoners in order to make difficulties for their families, rejection of requests of transfers to their dwelling towns or cities, inspection of their houses violently and with terrorizing their families, and also banning them from having furlough.
Need to be mentioned, Dr. Latif Hassani, the secretary of Yenigamoh, who is imprisoned in central prison of Tabriz, is on hunger strike in protest at authorities rejection of his request to be transferred to his hometown, Karaj, since May 18. Dr. Hassani had experienced a heart attack and that causes concern about his hunger strike.
