Adnan Hasanpoor in the 9th Year of Imprisonment

HRANA News Agency – Adnan Hasanpoor, imprisoned journalist of Marivan prison, after serving 9 years in prison, is waiting for his release in the last year of his sentence.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), considering that Adnan Hasanpoor’s sentence was reduced to 10 years in prison after applying article 134 in 2015, this imprisoned journalist is expected to be released in 8 months.
A close source to this journalist told HRANA’s reporter, “His condition has become better compared to the past. He is currently kept in Marivan prison and break times, food and the other facilities are better and his physical condition is better too”.
He continued, “After applying article 134 to him, his sentence was reduced to 10 years and in 8 months, the 10 years will be finished and he will be released. The execution order is also issued and submitted”.
Adnan Hasanpoor was arrested in 2008 and sentenced to death on charge of sacrilege. After the request of his lawyer the Supreme Court reviewed his case and his sentence was changed to 31 years in prison.
In 2010 his lawyer announced that his sentence was reduced to 15 years in prison and finally in June 2015, and after the new penal act was passed and by applying article 134, his sentence was reduced to 10 years.
He was a member of staff of Asou weekly, which was published in both Farsi and Kurdish languages. This weekly was banned from publishing by allegations like disrupting the public opinion and acts against the national security, in 2005.
Conviction of Mr. Hasanpoor was condemned by international human rights organizations and specifically Amnesty International. The Swedish branch of this organization gave him the press freedom award in 2007.
