Ahmad Asgari In a Critical Health Condition in Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – The physical and mental condition of Ahmad Asgari, an imprisoned journalist, have been reported to be poor and inappropriate after being held in Evin prison for over 6 months.
According to the sources of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Ahmad Asgari suffers from epilepsy and a serious mental disorder and although his solicitor has requested to issue a punishment intolerance order, the judicial authorities have not given an answer, yet.
Evin prison authorities also have refused to get the medicines that he used to take regularly out of prison.
Ahmad Asgari, a student of International Relations in Faculty of Political Sciences of Tehran Central University who has a history of arrests and detentions in 2009, in the last time was arrested in Fadak park in Tehran by the security forces, on 20th June and was released on the bail, on 8th October same year.
He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by judge Moghiseh on charges of propaganda against the regime, gathering and collusion against national security, disturbing public order and this court verdict was precisely approved by the Branch 36 of the Appeals Court that was being ruled by Judge Zargar, and he was sent to Evin prison on 13th January 2015, to endure his imprisonment sentence.
Part of the activities that led to these charges against this imprisoned journalist were; visiting the released political prisoners, participating in 2009 post-election protests and support of intrigue.
This journalist, who has a history of working with “Karun” and “Mardom Salari” newspapers, is now imprisoned in ward 8 of Evin prison. Ward 8 of Evin Prison is one of the worst wards of Evin prison where many political prisoners are held along with non-political prisoners in a crowd.
