HRANA News Agency – Aso Rostami, social and civil rights activist, was released from Evin prison after sixteen months of detention.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Aso Rostami, civil rights activist, had been arrested along with several others after a gathering to support Kobani in front of UN office in Tehran, on Wednesday, 8^th October 2014, and after a long time in solitary confinement and interrogation, he was transferred to ward 8 of Evin prison.
He was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment due to his peaceful civil activities. He was charged with propaganda against the regime, gathering and collusion against the national security and insulting the supreme leader. His trial along with three other civil activists was held by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Moghiseh, and they were sentenced to a total of 38 years imprisonment.
Cyber activities, publicizing critical articles about human rights situation and executions in Iran, empathy and solidarity with the families of political prisoners and families of death row prisoners, participating in a rally to support Kobani, sympathy with the families of the victims of the events of 2009 and communication with human rights activists, are the evidences that were used against him.
Aso Rostami’s case is now waiting at Appeals Court, Branch 36 for final decision and this social activist has been released on the bail.
