Aso Rostami Released after Serving His Sentence

HRANA News Agency – Aso Rostami who had been arrested to endure his imprisonment sentence, on December 20, was released at the end of his sentence.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Aso Rostami was released from Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj at the end of his sentence, on January 15, 2017.
It should be noted that Aso Rostami had been arrested along with several other civil society activists on October 8, 2015 after holding a rally in front of UN office in support of Kobani, and after interrogation and being held in the solitary confinement he was transferred to ward 8 of Evin prison.
Due to his peaceful civic activism, on the charges of propaganda against the regime, assembly and collusion against the national security and insulting the supreme leader he was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Activities in virtual networks and publishing critical articles and participating in a rally in defence of Kobani, were the documents for the charges that had been proposed against this civil activist.
Aso Rostami’s case was treated in Branch 36 of the Appeals Court and his first stage ruling was reduced. Mr. Rostami was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on charge of “gathering and collusion against the regime”, and 6 months for “insulting the leadership”.
Aso Rostami was arrested at his house and was transferred to Evin prison by the security forces to endure his 2-year imprisonment, and the next day he was transferred to Rajai Shahr prison.
