Behnam Ebrahimzadeh Transferred to Ward 2 of Rajai Shahr Prison

HRANA News Agency – Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, imprisoned labor activist, has been transferred again, to ward 2 (Daralqran) in Rajai Shahr prison.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Behnam Ebrahimzadeh has been transferred from solitary confinement straight to ward 1 in Rajai Shahr prison, about one month ago, on Saturday 6th June, while because of hunger strike and being beaten, he was seriously ill.

Prior to this, Najm al-Din Hosseini, head of the Daralqran ward, after a verbal dispute, attacked Behnam Ebrahimzadeh and transferred him to solitary confinement in Rajai Shahr prison.

According to a relative of Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, this is because Najm Hosseini, the head of Darul-Quran ward in Rajai Shahr prison was upset and remonstrated against the news that were published by the media about this ward  and he believed that Mr. Ebrahimzadeh has caused it.

It should be noted that Najm al-Din Hosseini is now wanted on charges of transporting drugs inside the prison.

The ward 2 in Rajai Shahr prison, known as Darul-Qran, is an especial religious ward where praying in groups and reading Quran is compulsory and prisoners with different crime and sometimes dangerous ones, will be prized with amnesty and vacation and close visit if they read and memorize Quran.

A person close to this detainee, about his situation, said: “Behnam is suffering from severe arthritis, and although he tries to cope with that pain, for several times he has gone to the prison’s clinic but it has not been useful, because they do not have the equipment that is needed for his treatment, on the other hand, his request for being transferred to a hospital outside the prison has always been rejected.”

It is to say that the son of this political prisoner has been affected by blood cancer, and it is more than two months after his last visit with his family. His family do not have regular weekly visits because of the distance.

Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, labor activist and children’s rights activist, was arrested by the security forces on 12th June 2010 and by the Revolutionary Court, he was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and his sentence was reduced on appeal to five years in prison. He is serving his sentence in the fifth year, and after the attacks to ward 350 of Evin prison, known as “Black Thursday” he was retried and sentenced to 9.5 years more imprisonment.
