Behnam Sheikhi Released from Central Prison of Tabriz

HRANA News Agency – On December 27, Behnam Sheikhi, prisoner of conscience was released from prison of Tabriz on parole.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), on December 27, Behnam Sheikhi, Turkish activist was released from prison of Tabriz by the end of his sentence including the period of detention after receiving parole.
Mr. Sheikhi was arrested by the security forces and was transferred to the central prison of Tabriz to serve his six months in prison on October 30, 2016.
On October 12, 2011, after the massive protests against the drying of Lake Urmia he had been arrested by the intelligence agents at his house in Golestan in Tehran.
Meanwhile, security forces scared his family and searched his house and then took his work books, manuscripts, CDs, computers and family photo albums.
He was also transferred to Tabriz Intelligent Service after 25 days in solitary confinements of ward 209 in Evin prison.
He was released on the bail of 500 million IRR on October 26, 2011.
Judge Hamlbar of Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz sentenced Mr. Sheikhi to 6 months imprisonment on the charges of propaganda against the state and assembly and collusion.
Mr. Sheikhi had been arrested for his civil rights activities and was sentenced to imprisonment.
On February 21, 2014, along with International Day of Mother Language, several civil society activists were arrested in Tehran province for participating in the commemoration of this day in Nasim.
On the days after the event, Behnam Sheikhi was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison on February 19, 2014.
He was transferred to ward number 8. He was released on the bail of 3 billion IRR, after nearly 70 days of detention, on May 14, 2014.
Behnam Sheikhi had twice gone on hunger strike in protest to illegal detention and holding his case and him in limbo.
Behnam Sheikhi was arrested in Islamshahr at his workplace on June 9, 2009, and after being under detention for 55 days in ward 209 of Evin prison, was released on the bail of 500 million IRR. He was charged with acts against the national security, propaganda against the regime and assembly and illegal gathering. He had a public court.
