Eight Azerbaijani Turk Activists End Hunger Strike in Ardabil and Evin Prisons After Officials Promise to Meet Their Demands

On June 14, eight Azerbaijani Turk activists ended their hunger strike in Ardabil and Evin Prisons after the authorities’ favorable promise that their demands would be met.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Saturday, June 13, Abbas Lesani went on a hunger strike to protest the non-observance of the principle of separation of prisoners based on crime and the punitive transfer of political prisoners to wards with prisoners of violent crimes.
Seven other prisoners had gone on hunger strikes in support of Lesani’s endeavor.
The prisoners involved were Abbas Lesani, Yousef Kari, Mehrdad Sheikhi, Ali Vaseghi, Reza Vaseghi, Siamak Mirzaei, Behnam Sheikhi, and Kianoosh Aslani.

4 Turkish Activists Sentenced to a Total of 45 Years in Prison

HRANA News Agency – The General and Revolutionary Court of Baharestan town, in Tehran, convicted four Turkish activists to a total of 45 years imprisonment and exile. Although the convictions have been made based on charges of organizing illegal groups, but the court documents indicate that they had no violent activities and they have been active mostly in the field of cultural and linguistic issues.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), based on a verdict issued by the General and Revolutionary Court of Baharestan town, in Tehran, Mr. Akbar Azad, journalist and researcher has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and 2 years exile in Dareh Shahr of Ilam province, Mr. Alireza Farshi has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and 2 years exile in Bagh-e Malek of Khozestan province, Mr. Behnam Sheikhi has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and 2 years exile in Masjed Soleiman of Khozestan, and Hamid Manafi has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and 2 years exile in Azna city of Lorestan province.   Continue reading “4 Turkish Activists Sentenced to a Total of 45 Years in Prison”

Behnam Sheikhi Released from Central Prison of Tabriz

HRANA News Agency – On December 27, Behnam Sheikhi, prisoner of conscience was released from prison of Tabriz on parole.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), on December 27, Behnam Sheikhi, Turkish activist was released from prison of Tabriz by the end of his sentence including the period of detention after receiving parole. An Azeri political activist released on heavy bail

HRANA News Agency – Akbar Azad, the Azeri activist who was arrested on International Mother Tongue’s Day, has been released on bail.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Akbar Azad, the Azeri political activist, who was arrested on charge of having speech on Internanioal Mother Tongue’s Day in Tehran last March and was transferred to Evin prison has been released on 150 million Tomans bail, on Saturday, May 17. Imprisoned Azeri activist in critical health condition

HRANA News Agency – Hamid Manafi, the Azerbaijaniani political activist was transferred to the clinic of Evin prison clinic because of his physical deterioration for the second time since his arrest.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Manafi was transferred to solitary confinement from general ward because of going on hunger strike since May 12. Later on, three days after he started Dry Hunger Strike, he was transferred to prison’s clinic as his physical condition was critical. According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), this Azeri activist, who was arrested on international mother tongue day in Tehran, in April 5, stated that he had spent 11 days on hunger strike from the beginning of his arrest, but after the promise of the authorities telling that he will be released on bail, he had broken it.
