Cold Weather and Lack of Basics in Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj
HRANA News Agency – The political prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj who were forced to move to the security halls earlier in August, have faced double problems such as denial of proper nutrition, lack of hot water for bathing and defective heating systems along with the arrival of the cold season. Prison authorities have suggested to them to forget their rights such as principle of separation of crimes in order to have basic facilities.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), about 54 political prisoners in Rajai shahr prison in Karaj have been transferred to the security hall 10 located in ward 4 earlier in August.
In this ward even the toilets are equipped with CCTV cameras.
The situation has forced political prisoners into the mass strike for more than forty days. A strike which was accompanied by broad public support.
Prisoners in this ward continue to face a number of challenges such as medical and nutrition issues after the end of the hunger strike and despite the promises of the officials.
According to HRANA’s reports, in addition to the former problems, the lack of heating systems, lack of access to hot water and the denial of proper nutrition have been added to the prisoners’ problems with the arrival of the cold season.
Prison authorities have suggested to the about 30 prisoners, to forget their rights such as principle of separation of crimes in order to have basic facilities.
They suggested those prisoners to sign a bill indicating that political prisoners themselves wanted to be transferred to other places of detention meanwhile canceling their complaints about the misuse or destruction of their equipment by the authorities in August.
It is told that the political prisoners in this ward who face illegal and inhumane denials, refused to comply with these conditions and continue to insist on enforcing the principle of separation of crimes and ensuring that they have the same facilities as the other prisoners.
It should be recalled that this hall was previously the whereabouts of the Sunni prisoners, which had been rebuilt and developed in terms of security with the command and oversight of security institutions after the mass execution of Sunni prisoners.
