Esmail Gerami Moghadam Transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Esmail Gerami Moghadam, spokesman and a senior member of “Etemade Melli” Party, was transferred to ward 209 of Evin Prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Esmail Gerami Moghadam, who was recently transferred to ward 8 of Evin prison, after being summoned by the security officer on Tuesday 21st July, was transferred to ward 209.
The spokesman for the “Etemad Melli” Party, and one of Mehdi Karroubi’s advisors, was arrested in the morning on 17th July on his arrival in Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport (FSF). It has been said that he was tried several months before entering the country, in absentia and has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
He was taken to Evin prison after being arrested at Imam Khomeini Airport and hours after the arrest in a telephone call with his brother, said that he had been arrested by the Intelligence Ministry.
Esmail Gerami Moghadam had gone to India and Malaysia to study, after the Party’s office was plumbed in the elections of 2009.
He has been suffering from sight impairment in the last couple of years, and there are concerns that he might be deprived of access to proper and special treatment in the prison.
Earlier, Mohseni Ezhehei, a spokesman for the judiciary, had said in April that, “Some people who were accused during the riot in 2009, had fled abroad, in March 2015 have been tried in absentia and were sentenced”.
