Head of Rajai Shahr Prison Calls for Expediting the Executions

HRANA News Agency – According to the documents that HRANA has obtained, Mohammad Mardani, head of Rajai Shahr prison, in the administrative correspondence related to the cases of several prisoners of death row, titled as “thugs”, has requested expedition of their execution.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), although the prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj had already reported multiple violations of their rights by Rajai Shahr prison authorities and in particular Mohammad Mardani, head of the prison, Daryoush Amirian director and his deputy Mirzaee, including beating and provoking bloody clashes, but to prove his offenses including working with the prison mafia, beatings and misusing the power is difficult and sometimes impossible for the Human rights Organization, due to restrictions.

However, HRANA has recently obtained the evidence that suggests that Mohammad Mardani has called for expedition of the execution of prisoners who has hostility to him for various reasons, by writing in their court papers to the law enforcement unit.

In some examples of documents (reserved), Mr. Mardani has introduced prisoners as “thugs” (Mr. Mardani’s favourite word for rebellious inmates) to the law enforcement unit and has requested to accelerate the execution of these prisoners.

In another document, Mr. Mardani has illegally exiled a prisoner to another location by his written order just because he guessed that this prisoner has sent out information about Mr. Mardani’s manner in the prison.

Mohammad Mardani has been accused of participating in numerous cases even beating prisoners, illegal detention of prisoners in solitary confinement, cutting the health diet illegally to punish the prisoners, arbitrary deportations of prisoners and, of course, working with or supporting the prison mafia and drug transfer in the prison, in the reports published by human rights organizations.

Mohammad Mardani was appointed to head of Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, after Ali Hajkazem had to leave the prison because of many prisoners’ testimonies regarding the violence of their rights, tortures and human rights violations.

It should be noted that, the Europe Union added Hasan Akharian, in charge of prison’s security of Rajai Shahr prison and a colleague of Mohammed Mardani, to the sanctions list, for involvement in the torture of prisoners and denial of medical treatment to ill prisoners, on October 10, 2011.
