HRANA News Agency – Relatives of Hossain Rounaghi Maleki, ill political prisoner of Evin prison, say that he is on hunger strike. Ahmad Rounaghi Maleki, his father announced that if the situation continued as it was, he would also start hunger strike.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Hossain Rounaghi Maleki, blogger and ill prisoner of Evin prison, despite the recommendations from prison clinic, hospital physicians and forensics insisting that he had to be sent to a medical centre outside of the prison, is being still kept in the prison. In protest to sabotage that has been carried out on the process of his transfer to the hospital has started a hunger strike since March 26.
A close friend to Hossain Rounaghi Maleki’s told HRANA’s reporter, “His family has travelled to Tehran in order to follow up the process of his transfer and Hossain’s father announced that if this condition continued, he would start hunger strike as well”.
This source continued about the condition of Hossain Rounaghi Maleki, “His medicines have been finished before the new year and he has been left without any treatment. The status of his new year furlough is unknown and nobody gives any answer to his family. Hossain is kept in the prison illegally. His sentence was held on that time, and the forensic issued the order of intolerance of punishment. Besides, articles 504 and 297 could be applied for him and he could receive parole and pardon. This is while prison authorities constantly insult and harass Hossain”.
He added, “He has to undergo MRI test for his spinal and back issues. And for blood viscosity he needs to do some examinations. He has lost one of his kidneys and the other one has recently been infected. Despite all these conditions the prosecutor’s office does not do anything”.
Need to be mentioned, this political prisoner was transferred to a professional clinic for his spinal and back problems on Wednesday March 9, 2016, but was sent back to prison after the examinations.
Angina, kidney problems, swelling of the face, stomach bleeding, unmoral blood viscosity, eye infections, lung problems and breathing difficulties are some of the diseases that family of Rounaghi requested intolerance of punishment in accordance with them.
His father had stated to HRANA previously, “my son should not be kept in prison due to his diseases and lack of medical facilities in the prison”.
Hossain Rounaghi Maleki, human rights activist and blogger was arrested on December 13, 2009.
Branch number 26 of the revolutionary court sentenced him to 15 years in prison on October 5, 2010, after 10 months being under arrest in ward 2-A of Evin prison. He was charged with membership in Iranproxy network, insulting the supreme leader and insulting the president.
This sentence was confirmed in branch number 54 of the court of appeal and he was then transferred to ward 350 of Evin prison.
This prisoner is currently kept in ward number 7 of Evin prison without medical treatment and in a very bad condition.
