Hunger Strike at Uremia Prison goes on

HRANA News Agency – About 30 political prisoners at the central prison of Uremia, Darya, have gone on hunger strike since Thursday November 20th.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), 29 political prisoners in ward 12 of Uremia central prison have gone on hunger strike from Thursday 20th November.
In this regard, an informed source told HRANA’s reporter: “Those prisoners have gone on hunger strike to protest against transferring 55 murder defendants and drug-related defendants to political prisoners’ ward and taking 35 political prisoners to their ward. Also this hunger strike is to protest at summoning political prisoners to the Intelligence office in the prison, torture and the inquisition, framing them for propaganda and threats against their families. They stated that their main demand is separation from other detainees and their hunger strike will continue until the achievement of results.”
He continued: “On Sunday, warden and prison’s security authorities went to ward 12 and first tried to deal with the issue by giving their words to solve the problems and then, began to threaten, such as increasing the number of prisoners in their ward and asked them to stop their hunger strike.”
