HRANA News agency – Since two weeks ago, Shahin (Jafar) Eghdami, the prisoner of hall 12 of political prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, has avoided to go to cabin visiting hall to protest against the denial of retrial and furlough, as well as problems which have come up for his family during following up the administrative process of these requests.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), a source close to the prisoner, regarding the situation of this political prisoner, told HRANA’s reporter: “According to Article 10 of the new law about waging war, he is not known as combatant anymore and eventually they will charge him only for gathering and colluding and disturbing public order, and they can sentence him to 5 years imprisonment, while he has spent 8 years of imprisonment. It means his request for retrial must be admitted and this issue must be applied on his case and he should be free”.

The source continued: “On the other hand, in protest against the denial of furlough permission and the problems accrued for his family during the process of getting this permission, he has rejected to go to cabin visit as a form of protest against his condition. His mother has got psychological problems due to this goof off regarding his furlough permission.

Jafar Aghdami was arrested for the last time after participating at the anniversary ceremony at the grave site of victims of 1980s in Khavaran, just 4 months after being released from prison, and was transferred to Evin prison, on August 29, 2008. He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by judge Moghiseh and the sentence was increased to 10 years imprisonment at the appeal stage, after prosecution appealed.

This political prisoner was transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj after about two years and along with other political prisoners was sent to hall 12 of this prison.

Shahin (Jafar) Aghdami had been arrested also in 1999 and 2001 and was imprisoned. In July 1999, coinciding with protests in university dormitory, he was arrested by plainclothes agents and was transferred to the basement of the gendarmerie building and after one month was released on the bail.

Mr. Aghdami also was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence agents in 2001 and was sentenced to 6 years Imprisonment and subsequently was released after his sentence ended in 2008.

This political prisoner is now in the eighth year of his sentence in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.
