Kazem Safabakhsh was Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison

Kazem Safabakhsh, an Azerbaijani Turkic ethnic minority rights activist detained in the Evin prison was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment. His trial was held in the Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran on February 24, 2019 led by Judge Moghiseh. He was charged with “establishing and organizing a separatist group (Telegram channel)” and according to the Article 498, he was sentenced o 10 years imprisonment; for the charge of “ disturbing public opinion” he was sentenced to two years in prison according to the Article 698 and finally, for the charge of “ propaganda against the state” and according to the Article 500 of the Islamic Penal Code was sentenced to one year in prison.

A Meshgin Shahr resident, Safabakhsh was arrested on November 25, 2018 and was transferred to an unknown place. He is detained at the Ward 4 of the Evin prison.
