Mostafa Azizi Tried In The Court Of Appeal

HRANA News Agency – The Court of Appeal for Mostafa Azizi was held and the judge refused to release him on the bail.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Mostafa Azizi was sent to the court in prison uniform, on Sunday, 20th September, and his case was treated in Branch 54 of the Appeals Court, presided by Judge Babaei.
The session was held in the presence of Mr. Azizi and his lawyer. The judge at this stage refused to release him on the bail. It had been mentioned that Judge Poor Arab would treat this case in the appeal stage.
Mr. Azizi was tried and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment on charges of “gathering and collusion against national security”, “propaganda against the regime” and “insulting the leadership” by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Salvati, on 1st June.
Mostafa Azizi, 53, is the author of the story collection “I am Raymond Carver”, and former producer on the Iranian television who had immigrated to Canada in 2010. He was arrested shortly after his return to Iran on 1st February 2014.
Mr. Azizi spent the first month of his detention in ward 2A in Evin prison, under the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ control and is now in ward 8 of this prison in his ninth month of detention.
