Navid Khanjani’s Sentence Reduced to 5 Years

HRANA News Agency – The 12 years of imprisonment of Navid Khanjani, imprisoned human rights activist in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj has been reduced to 5 years in prison by the “aggregation of the rules”. According to the new sentence, he will be released within the next year.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Navid Khanjani, imprisoned human rights activist in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj had been senteced to 12 years imprisonment but his sentence was reduced to 5 years in prison by the “aggregation of the rules” and application of Article 134. So he will be released within the next year.
The human rights activist is spending the fourth year of his sentence in hall 12 of Rajai Shahr prison.
HRANA previously reported quoted a source close to the human rights activist about the following of his furlough: “Previously Mr. Khodabakhshi recommended his family to tell him to write a furlough request. First Navid was resisting, but when his family insisted, he requested the furlough. It was said to him that it had been denied and nobody answers who had rejected the request”.
According to this source, the mental condition of Navid Khanjani in prison is “not too bad”, but because of the hits to his back and spinal problems of his 4th and 5th spines he had to have a surgery and still has to be careful of  his movements, he is even not able to exercise.
Navid Khanjani is former responsible of the Committee of the Right for Education of Human Rights Activists in Iran and member of the Committee of Human Rights Reporters and founder of the Association Against Educational Discrimination who was arrested by the security forces in 2009 and spent two months in prison.Then he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 4 million IRR fine in branch number 26 of the revolutionary court headed by judge Pirabbasi. The verdict was confirmed in the appeal court.
His charges were “spreading lies”, “disturbing and propaganda against the system by disseminating news, reports, and interviews with foreign radio and TV”, “membership in the Human Rights Activists in Iran”, “membership in the Committee of Human Rights Reporters” and “forming the Association Against Educational Discrimination”.
