HRANA News Agency – Mohammadreza Haj Rostambeiglo, the poet who had been arrested in December 2015, was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment by the court in his absence.
According to the report of the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Mohammadreza Haj Rostambeiglo, poet, who had been arrested on Wednesday December 15, 2015, in Karaj and then was released on a bail of 700 million IRR from the Central prison of Karaj, was tried by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj, in his absence, and was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
He has been charged with “insulting Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader” and “propaganda against the Islamic regime” in his absence by Judge Farajullahi.
The context of the sentence has not mentioned the implementation of the provisions of Article 164, aggregation of sentences, but probably it will be by the executive committee, in which case only two years of this sentence will be applicable.
HRANA had reported last year that this poet had written on his Facebook page that he was transferred to Hall 7 of the Central Prison of Karaj, after being insulted and beaten during and long interrogations in solitary confinement.
Mr. Haj Rostmbeiglo, also in another case, in 2012, with charges of “blasphemy” and “distribution of unauthorized CDs”, was arrested and had been sentenced to seven months of imprisonment and a fine of 5 million IRR.
