HRANA News Agency – The prisoners’ ration in Evin Prison have a quite low quality and hygiene. In prisoner meals they always use soya instead of meat. This diet is while cooking is done improperly and food delivery is unsanitary. Most of the prisoners believe that the low quality and hygiene of food in prison, is deliberate to make prisoners buy from prison’s stores.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Evin prison’s diet has a very low quality and hygiene.
The close sources to the prisoners’ families in Evin prison say; “They are very fatty foods cooked with hydrogenated oil, the kitchen’s hygiene is also very low. Insects, cockroaches and rats can be seen in the cooking places, in abundance.”
According to the sources, previously and twice a week “a few chicken bones” were seen in the lunch, but as usual, at the end of the year, it was also replaced by soya.
Seven days a week, foods are made from soya, that due to incorrect cooking methods, smell very bad.
The dinner is usually made of potatoes and one egg per person. The eggs are over-cooked and usually broken.
At some nights the meal is made of lentils, beans “with stones and without adequate cooking”.
This diet has made prisoners buy from the store or restaurant at the prison. The shops have a high financial benefit for the prison.
One of the relatives of prisoners in Evin prison, told HRANA’s reporter:  “prisoners of finance related crimes usually do order from prison’s restaurants and do not have a problem. While a number of political prisoners, prisoners of conscience and prisoners of a small amount of debts such as amount of dowry, have to take the prison food.”
In the end, the source said:  “A prisoner who has been held for more than two years in prison does not have a source of income to buy from the restaurant. Is there any choice, but to use the prison’s unsanitary foods?”
