Psychologically ill Sunni prisoner held for 3 weeks in solitary

HRANA News Agency – A Sunni prisoner with psychological illnesses has been held in solitary confinement for more than three weeks in Iran’s Ghezel Hesar prison, after he was beaten by prison guards and removed from his prison ward.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Sunni prisoner of conscience Seddigh Mohammadi, who suffers from psychological illnesses, was subjected to a brutal beating by guards within the prison on 12 August 2014, leaving him with horrific injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack left Seddigh Mohammadi with a wound to his head and severe bruising to his body.

There was no news about his location and condition following the attack, but it has now emerged that he is being held in solitary confinement within the prison.

Reports suggest the attack took place after the prisoner had complained about the behavior of Hossein Ghadami, the head of section 3 of the prison, as well as prison guards, who had insulted his Sunni religious beliefs.

Concerns for Seddigh Mohammadi’s welfare are growing. He is at risk of execution after his death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court in May 2014 and his case was sent to the Office for the Implementation of Sentences.
