A Report on the Latest Status of Hadi Ghaemi

HRANA News Agency – The retrial of Hadi Ghaemi, elderly and sick prisoner of Evin prison who suffers from various diseases such as high blood pressure and prostate problems, is revieing in the Prosecutor’s office.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Hadi Ghaemi is one of detainees of 2009 who had been exiled to Gonbad Kavoos prison with a sentence of 15 years in prison but was transferred to Evin prison due to his age and for the treatment of various diseases last year.

Mr. Ghaemi who is in the the seventh decade of his life, was arrested 6 days after the protests of December 27, 2009  by the IRGC intelligence agents at his house and was transferred to solitary confinement in ward 209 of Evin Prison.

The political prisoner was exiled to Gonbad Kavoos prison after being sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On Monday, September 6, 2010 when Mr.Ghaemi’s family referred to visiting room of ward 350 of Evin to meet him after passing the entire process and they were informed that instead of meeting them he would be exiled to Gonbad Kavoos prison.

Some time after the exile, he was transferred to Evin prison due to his general health deterioration and age and for the treatment of various diseases last year.

The political prisoner has been treated twice in a hospital outside the prison and the treatment process has to be followed.

Mr. Ghaemi’s family also have requested for a retrial which is being reviewed in the appeal court in Tehran.

Now, Mr. Ghaemi is held in ward 7 of Evin prison.
