HRANA News Agency – Abdulreza Ghanbari an imprisoned teacher, who was initially condemned to death, then 15, and finally 10-year imprisonment sentence, is currently being held at Karaj Rajaee Shahr Prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Abdulreza Ghanbari was arrested several days after Ashora 2009 at the school where he used to teach.
A well informed source explained about his arrest to HRANA reporter:” Abdulreza Ghanbari went to Modarres high school just like any other day to teach Persian Literature to his students. However, when he entered the High School there were no students, nor other colleagues or teachers. The school was closed for an irrelevant excuse. After couple of minutes, security officers entered the headmaster’s office and arrested him after naming him. He was then taken to the vehicle parked in the High school yard. His whereabouts was unknown to his friends and family for several days. After a while they were informed that he is in custody at Ward 209 of Evin Prison.”
After extreme integrations, Abdulreza Ghanbari was transferred from Ward 209 to Ward 240 at Evin Prison and on 30 January 2010 was sent to Islamic Revolutionary Court from solitary confinement.
At branch 15 of Islamic Revolutionary Court, he was sentenced to death by Judge “Salavati” on the charge of waging war against God and attending the demonstration on Ashora without being able to defend himself without having access to a lawyer or legal aid. This Political Prisoner spent 4 years in Ward 350 of Evin Prison waiting for execution and in February 2013 the death sentence was broken and he was trialled again at Islamic Revolutionary Court and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in exile in Borazjan Prison. Finally his sentence was reduced to 10 years imprisonment at the Appeal Court.
On 8 December 2013, Abdulreza Ghanbari was sent off to Borazjan Prison and on 12 November 2014 he was transferred to Karaj Rajaee Shahr Prison. He is currently held at Hall 12 of this prison.
