Ali Moeini and Ava Nasiri Sentenced to Prison

Political activist Ali Moeini and his wife Ava Nasiri have been sentenced to six years and one year in prison, respectively, along with additional penalties, by Branch 1 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court. Of these sentences, six months of Mr. Moeini’s term and three months and one day of Ms. Nasiri’s term are enforceable, with the remaining portions suspended for five years.

According to HRANA, citing Emtedad, Mr. Moeini recevied five year for  “inciting people to wage war” and one year for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic”. Ms. Nasiri was sentenced to one year for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.” Both have also been banned from leaving the country for two years as part of their additional penalties.

The verdict specifies that beyond the enforceable sentences, the remaining penalties for Mr. Moeini and Ms. Nasiri are suspended for five years. In effect, Mr. Moeini faces six months of prison time, while Ms. Nasiri faces three months and one day of imprisonment.

Additionally, Mr. Moeini was acquitted of the charge of “collaborating with hostile countries.” However, their confiscated mobile phones and digital devices were permanently seized by authorities.

Mr. Moeini was arrested in Isfahan on August 10, 2023. Following his arrest, some of his and Ms. Nasiri’s personal belongings were confiscated. He was released on bail on October 9, 2023.

Political Activist Ali Moeini Remains Detained in Isfahan

Despite 17 days having passed since his arrest, Ali Moeini, a political activist residing in Isfahan, remains in indefinite detention. The lack of information regarding his condition has heightened concerns among his family.

A source confirmed to HRANA: “Despite 17 days having passed since Mr. Moeini’s arrest and his family’s repeated follow-ups with judicial authorities, the relevant officials continue to refrain from providing a clear response regarding his situation. This has escalated the concerns of his family and close associates. Two days ago, he was only able to confirm his well-being in a brief phone call.”

Mr. Moeini has been denied access to a lawyer during his detention.

This political activist was arrested on August 10, 2023, in Isfahan.

So far, no information has been obtained regarding the reasons for his arrest, his place of detention, or the charges against him. Ali Moeini, who has a history of legal confrontations due to his activism, is married and the father of a three-year-old child.

Mehdi Moghadari Goes on Hunger Strike

Imprisoned Mehdi Moghadari, a former member of Isfahan city council, went on a hunger strike in protest against judicial officials’ refusal to release him temporarily.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Mehdi Moghadari went on a hunger strike in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan.

Suffering from rheumatism, Moghadari needs treatment. According to student activist Ali Moeini, Moghadari has been on a hunger strike for two days.

In November 2022, security forces arrested Moghadari in Isfahan and jailed him in Dastgerd Prison.
