Two Sunni prisoners deprived of medical treatment

HRANA News Agency – Shahram Ahmadi and Arash Sharifi, two Sunni prisoners of conscience awaiting execution in Evin prison in Tehran, have been deprived of adequate medical treatment despite their ongoing health problems.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Both men have been suffering from serious illnesses for a number of months, and prison doctors have said they require further treatment in medical centers outside of the prison. Despite the prisoner’s deteriorating condition, the Iranian authorities have so far refused to transfer the men to hospital for further treatment.

One of the prisoners, Shahram Ahmadi, who has already lost his left kidney, now faces serious health complications after developing an infection in his remaining kidney. He is currently suffering from pain and bleeding, and has visited the prison infirmary repeatedly during recent months. According to reports, the prison doctor has said Shahram needs to be transferred to a medical center outside of the hospital for further tests and treatment, however the Iranian authorities have so far not taken any action to transfer him.

The second prisoner, Arash Sharifi, is in urgent need of a corneal transplant. Doctors have declared an almost total loss of vision in his left eye, and the prognosis for his his right eye is poor if he remains without treatment. His vision has already deteriorated to the extent that he is unable to read anything more than 15 centimeters away.

Despite the threat of irreversible damage to his vision, the Iranian authorities have still not transferred him to a hospital outside of the prison for treatment.
