HRANA News Agency – While the fire safety and earthquake training exercise were cancelled due to gender segregation the students were at danger in a fire accident on May 14.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), two fires and a gas poisoning accident have happened in dormitories of Shahr-e-Kord’s university that concerned the students, while authorities had cancelled the prevention exercise in excuse of gender segregation and intervene with praying time.
Need to be mentioned, the gas poisoning happened at girls dormitory on April 27th, first fire accident happened in university’s store on May 2nd, and second fire accident happened on boy’s dormitory on May 14th.
A student of this university who wanted to remain unknown said to HRANA’s reporter, “during past two months, there were two fire accidents and one gas leakage in dormitory. Three days before this accident, the red crescent of university asked for a preparation exercise and submitted the proposal to authorities, which it was rejected due to gender segregation, and intervene with praying time. They have postponed the session on future semesters, but in much smaller scale”.
He added, “May be this accident would happened even after the exercise, but at least students could respond to fire properly. Even though, some of the fire extinguishers were expired, and the people who knew how to use them, were on stalemate”.
He added about the reaction of university’s guard, “their only concern was that nobody could not take picture, record any film or publicize the news. Even, some students that their rooms were set into fire did not find the access to their belongings and accessories and they had to spent night in park”.
