HRANA News Agency – 34 human rights organizations called on the member states of the UN Human Rights Council to extend the mission of Ahmed Shaheed to defend human rights in Iran.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), along with the 31st session of the UN Human Rights Council, 34 nongovernmental organization asked the member states to extend the mission of UN special rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran.
In a joint letter signed by representatives of human rights organizations including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, the signatories called on the council to address Iran’s record on human rights as well as the importance of the Special Rapporteur.
The letter emphasized: “The extension of the mandate of the special rapporteur is a powerful message to the Iranian authorities that violations of human rights will be the center of attention of the council and the world unless tangible changes and improvements happen.”
