An Imprisoned Journalist Released after Serving 3 Years in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Mehrdad Sarjoei, parliamentary reporter, was released after serving his 3 years imprisonment sentence at Evin prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), on Tuesday 13th January, Merdad Sarjoei was released after serving his 3 years imprisonment sentence at Evin prison.
Mehrdad Sarjoei was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, on January 2011, by branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran and on March 2012, by branch 54 of appeal court was released after 10 month detention, on bail.
However, appeal court refused the solicitor appeal and confirmed the court verdict, but changed it to 3 years imprisonment and 7 years suspended sentence and on 29th November he was summoned to the Law-enforcement office in Evin prison and was transferred to ward 350 of Evin prison.
Sarjoei was alleged to the espionage and then by the branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court was charged with cooperation with hostile governments through publicizing analysis, articles, interviews and news in favor of enemy countries.
This political prisoner used to work in the English-language Tehran Times and Iran News newspaper as a reporter and editor of the political and parliamentary service, from 1992 to 2006. From 2006 to 2011, he was in charge of public relations of the Strategic Research Center affiliated to the Expediency Council of Iranian Regime.
