HRANA News Agency – A new case has been opened against Hassan Rastgari, political prisoner in Central Prison of Urmia, following the warden’s complaint against him. He had a hearing in the Revolutionary Court in Urmia.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Hassan Rastgari, political prisoner in Central Prison of Urmia, has faced a new case after he was sued had by warden, “Hossein Gharabaghi”, and has had a trial in branch 6 of the Revolutionary Court in Urmia.
A close source to this political prisoner by announcing this news in an interview with HRANA‘s reporter, said: “Mr Rastgari is held in the apolitical prisoners’ ward. The warden, Mr. Hossein Gharabaghi, was going to give Mr Rasgari’s bed to another prisoner, but he resisted. Then several apolitical prisoners at the instigation of the warden beat this political prisoner and he was transferred to solitary confinement as a punishment.”
The source also added: “Mr. Rastgari was beaten for several days when he was held in solitary confinement, by the same prisoners and in coordination with the warden and the new head of the prison, Mr. Safari. This problem caused strong protests by the political prisoners from various wards of the prison.”
Finally he said: “The problem and some other things caused a new case being made against Mr. Rastegari and he was tried.”
Hassan Rastgari, 43, Iranian-Turkish citizen, was arrested in the city of Urmia, on October 27, 2014.
Mr. Rastgari was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on charges of “disturbing public order, acting against national security and collaborating with Kurdish opposition groups”, by the Revolutionary Court in the city of Urmia. The sentence was upheld by the appeal court.
