Police Headquarters Reacted to HRANA’s Report about Sajad Tofighian

HRANA News Agency – Police headquarters of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province reacted to HRANA’s report by releasing a statement, about a Dehdasht resident who went to coma after being beaten by police forces. This police headquarter denied to have beaten Sajad Tofighian, and claimed that one the police forces was injured by him, and he went to hospital due to side effects of taking pills. This is contradicting the witnesses, Tofighian family, press and local authorities’ claims who believed that this civilian was beaten by police forces.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), three days after HRANA’s report about how Sajad Tofighian went to coma, police headquarters of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province reacted to it by issuing a statement with the title of “Clarification of Sajad Tofighian’s Incident”.
HRANA had previously reported that Sajad Tofighian was hospitalized after being severely beaten by two police officers, and went to coma after some time. According to his family physicians do not have any hope for his recovery.
Police headquarters of Kohkilouyeh province published a statement and claimed, “police force were suspicious on a motor cycle during their patrol in Sarfaryab and Imamzadeh Hamzeh road, an ordered it to stop, but instead while he was trying to run over the officers, passenger, Sajad Tofighian, hit the head of one the officers with the bag the he possessed, which caused in head bleeding of the officer”.
Police force headquarter of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province claimed, “After the motor cycle was stopped, passengers were trying to run that the officers arrested them and transferred them to the police station. During the interrogation and investigation it was realized that inside the bag a bottle of alcoholic drink was carried that had scattered and destroyed due to the crush. After primary investigations, considering of being closed to Eid, they were released on the bail and by signing consent, and also pardon that was given by the officer who was hit by them, along with some of their relatives, without any injuries”.
This claim has been made while Sajad Tofighian insisted that he was injured by electric baton, and in contradiction with headquarters’ claim, their nephew went to the police station and sued two officers, after Mr. Tofigian had been transferred to the hospital. However, the law suit was supposed to be processed after the holidays.
A close source to Tofighian family told HRANA’s reporter, “Sajad’s brother wrote a letter to the Supreme Leader and Head of Judiciary and asked for justice, after Sajad went to coma. He publicized the letter in local press. After that his brother, sister, and his nephews were summoned by the police and interrogated. Besides, his family is under pressure for not having interviews with the press. They were even threatened that if they would do so, the police would not pay the hospital expenses”.
The Police’s claim is not just denying to have beaten Sajad Tofighian, and it continues: “After the police investigation from Imam Sajad hospital, the place that this person was hospitalized, hospital security confirmed that people who were along with the patient said that he had used diazepam and clonazepam pills and the documents showed that. Besides, medical documents are clearly indicating that there is no sign of being beaten”.
Police has made such a claim, while according to a report that had been published by HRANA and some other provincial press, local and provincial authorities, including Mr. Adl Hashemi, parliament member, and principle of medical science university of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province who has visited Sajad and promised to follow up with the incident, on July 10, he had been beaten by the Police forces and went to coma there.
Need to be mentioned that the official website of the governor of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province had reported on July 10th, that “Sajad Tofighian was beaten by people that seemed to have police uniforms”.
The close source to Tofoghian family said in the end, “How is it possible that authorities like Mr. Adl Hashemi, MP and principle of medical science university of the province pay a visit to a drunk person who has injured an officer with alcoholic beverage bottle and hospitalized due to overdose of diazepam and clonazepam pills, and promise to follow ups of the case?”
